Add the World Cup to your calendarWhen does the World Cup 2026 start?
The opening match is on 11 June 2026 at the legendary Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. The final is on 19 July 2026 at MetLife Stadium near New York. At over five weeks, it is the longest World Cup in history thanks to the expanded 48-team format.
The group stage runs from 11 to 27 June. The knockout rounds follow: round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final.
How does the new format work?
For the first time, 48 teams compete, split into 12 groups of four. The top two from each group plus the eight best third-placed teams advance to a 32-team knockout phase.
That means more matches, more upsets and more chances for smaller footballing nations to make a run. In total there are 104 matches, up from 64 at previous tournaments.
Host cities and time zones
There are 16 host cities spread across three countries and four time zones. Kick-off times vary widely, so having the times in your local zone matters.
WorldCup2Calendar converts every kick-off to your local time automatically, so you never miss a match because of a time-zone mix-up.
